Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year

We are excited to welcome our students back for the 2011-12 school year.  We have worked hard during the summer to make this year our best yet!  I would like to bring a couple of things to your attention to help make this year successful for your students. 

First, your student must have the PERTUSSIS BOOSTER IMMUNIZATION to attend school in the fall.  You must provide your students immunization records before your student will receive their schedule.  To obtain immunization information please visit the district website at www.salinasuhsd.org.

Second, we are implementing MANDATORY ACADEMIC SUPPORT for students who do not meet academic expectations in core classes.  Students failing to meet proficiency will be assigned to either lunch or after-school extended learning.  We believe that all students must learn, and to achieve this goal, we intend to make sure students have additional opportunities to succeed. 

Finally, I would like to encourage you to get involved in our school.  During Herd Round-up you will have an opportunity to sign up for two important parent volunteer opportunities: 1) THE PARENT PATROL – where parents help us patrol the campus during the day to discourage misbehavior, and 2) THE WRANGLER PROGRAM – parent volunteer for specific events or functions.  We encourage you to get involved and make a strong parent presence on our campus. 

It is our goal to support students in achieving academic success.  We will be intensely focused on helping student learn and making sure that students embrace an attitude of learning.  If I can help you or your student with their learning, please feel free to contact me.

Teacher Collaboration Late Starts

On Wednesday’s throughout the school year, school will start one hour late for teacher collaboration.  On teacher collaboration days school will start at 9:00 am.  To review the bell schedule on teacher collaboration days, please refer to the handbook.  The 9:00 am late start dates are as follows:

• August 17
• September 14, 31
• October 12, 28
• November 9, 30
• December 14
• January 18,
• February 1, 15, 29
• March 14, 28
• April 18
• May 2, 16

How to successfully interact with the school...

• PARKING:  We have several visitor parking spots in the parking lot on Geil Street.  If those visitor spots are occupied, do not park anywhere else in this lot.  The remainder of the lot is reserved for staff and handicap parking.  Parking in these restricted areas may result in a parking ticket or the vehicle being towed.
• LEAVING SCHOOL: If you need to get your student out of school, it is much easier if you contact the attendance office in advance.  For medical appointments we request that  you contact the school prior to 8:00 am on the day of the appointment.  Students returning from school must provide a written doctors note to verify the absence. • DELIVERIES: We understand that students may forget things at home that they need for the day.  To support our students, we take deliveries in the main office.  The deliveries are restricted to items that are school related, i.e. homework, presentations, PE clothing, etc.  We do not take delivery of money, balloons, flowers, or food.
• COUNSELING: Our counselors are very supportive of our students and are always available to meet with parents.  If you would like to meet with your student’s counselor, we request that you contact the counseling office to schedule an appointment.
• VISITATION:  We understand and encourage parent visitation during the school day.  To help us keep our students safe from intruders, if you come onto campus during the school day you must check in at the Attendance Office to receive a visitors pass.  Whether it is to visit your child or pay for a school activity, you must check-in.  Failure to do may result in you being asked to leave campus.

Cómo tener éxito al comunicarse con la escuela...

 

Empiezan tarde los días de Colaboración Docente

Los miércoles durante el año escolar, la escuela comenzará una hora tarde para la colaboración de maestro. En los días de colaboración, las clases comenzarán a las 9:00 am. Para examinar el horario de la campana durante los días de colaboración de maestro, consulten la guía estudiantil.  Las fechas en que empezaremos tarde son las siguientes:

• 17 de agosto
• 1, 15, 29 de septiembre
• 13, 27 de octubre
• 10 de noviembre
• 1, 15 de diciembre
• 19 de enero
• 2, 16 de febrero
• 2, 16, 30 de marzo
• 13 de abril

Bienvenidos al Año Escolar 2010-11

Estamos emocionados de darles la bienvenida de vuelta a nuestros estudiantes a este año escolar 2010-2011. ¡Hemos trabajado mucho durante el verano para hacer este año que viene el mejor! Nos comprometemos a la continuación de nuestro viaje hacia el éxito académico mejorado y hemos hecho algunos cambios emocionantes para dar apoyo al aprendizaje de estudiante.

Primero, ponemos en práctica diariamente “las barridas de estudiantes que tardan a la clase” en cada período.  El año pasado más de 30,000 estudiantes llegaron tarde al primer período. Perdimos más de 100,000 minutos educativos a las llegadas tardías. ¡Los padres y la escuela tienen que trabajar activamente unidos para hacer que nuestros estudiantes lleguen a la escuela puntuales! Los estudiantes que tardan al primer período escolar recibirán detención después de las clases regulares el día siguiente.  Para datos concretos relacionados con esta nueva política, por favor examinen la sección en la guía de estudiante (student handbook).

Segundo, ponemos en práctica el apoyo académico obligatorio a estudiantes que no cumplen con las expectativas académicas en las clases básicas. Los estudiantes que no cumplen con el nivel de competente serán asignados estudio suplementario durante la hora de comer o después de escuela.  Creemos que todos los estudiantes deben aprender, y para lograr este objetivo, tenemos que asegurarnos que los estudiantes tengan oportunidades adicionales para sobresalir.

Finalmente, hemos modificado nuestra política de aparatos electrónicos para apoyar a los estudiantes en cumplir con la expectativa. Los aparatos electrónicos no serán permitidos durante el tiempo de clase. Si un aparato electrónico es visto u oído durante el tiempo educativo, el aparato será confiscado. Esta política cubre tanto el aparato como cualquier accesorio (celulares/audífonos, bluetooth/accesorios inalámbricos, etc.). Los datos concretos a la confiscación electrónica pueden ser encontrados en la guía de estudiante.  Los aparatos electrónicos son permitidos durante el tiempo sin clase (pasando de período y el almuerzo).

Es nuestro objetivo apoyar a los estudiantes en lograr el éxito académico. Estaremos sumamente enfocados en ayudar a los estudiantes a aprender y asegurándonos que los estudiantes acepten una actitud de aprender.  Si puedo ayudarles a ustedes o a su hijo/hija con sus estudios académicos, por favor tengan la libertad de ponerse en contacto conmigo.
